Website Updates

It has been over a year since I've updated my blog or my website, and much has changed since I created this site over a year ago! Originally, I was looking forward to pursuing a career as a professionally-published author, however, after extensively researching the modern publishing industry, I've decided that self-publishing aligns more greatly with the goals I have as an author, and I will briefly explain my reasoning here:

I have chosen to pursue self-publishing as opposed to professional publishing for a number of reasons. I fully acknowledge that my writing style does not align with the current professional publishing industry's standards, nor do my books follow the current trends and tropes favored by publishers. I grew up primarily reading books written pre-1970s, and that is the style of literature I still adore and admire to this day. I love omniscient POV (which is a perspective commonly used in old books but currently despised by agents and publishers), which I often write in, and I don't believe in adding random subplots simply for the sake of appealing to the majority (I have heard of far too many authors being instructed by publishers to add a romantic subplot or extra “spice” to their fantasy novel, simply because romantasy is “in” right now). The modern publishing industry prioritizes monetary gain above individualism, which means it must pander to current media trends rather than explore unique or unusal story ideas. My style will not appeal to everybody—probably not the majority of people!—and that's okay; I write from the heart and I write what I enjoy. I'm more than willing to accept constructive criticism and improve the many issues with my book (things such as grammar, spelling, plotholes, character develop, pacing, etc.) but the one thing I'm not willing to do is change my story to suite the trends of an ever-changing market. Although my works may not appeal to many, I sincerely hope that the scattered folks which enjoy a more “archaic” style of writing will find and appreciate my works!

Aside from my current grievances with the publishing industry, I would like to update you on the progress of my fantasy book! I am currently on my second full rewrite (third version overall) and I am sitting at approximately 120k words (I am estimating that the finished manuscript will be close to 200k). My goal is to finish my “official first draft” within six months or so, and hopefully have my book fully written, revised, edited, illustrated, and ready to share by late 2027. Although this is my goal, writing is a lengthy process for me and I know that rushing the creative process is not a diligent thing to do, so this is just a hopeful estimate. Regardless of the time it takes, I am so excited to share my book with the world and I hope I will be able to finish it soon!
